Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
On May 21, Kolkata police arrested three men in two separate operations related to illegal firearms possession. At approximately 00:55 hours, Saddam Hussain @ Nepali, 32, son of Md Alauddin, resident of 92 West Chowbaga, was apprehended near the approach road to AJC Bose Road flyover under Hastings Police Station jurisdiction. During the arrest, police recovered one 7mm pistol with magazine and two live cartridges from his possession. His associates fled the scene on being chased.
Earlier, at about 00:50 hours, two men—Md Fayem @ Fahim, 30, son of Md Nayeem, and Md Faiyaz, 25, son of Lt Md Giyasuddin, both residents of Martin Para—were arrested near Topsia Road South, close to Sigma Pharmacy. Police seized a country-made single-shot firearm and one live cartridge from Fayem and one live cartridge from Faiyaz. Both individuals were found in possession of the firearms and cartridges with the intention to sell them to other criminals.
Following the arrests, cases were registered at Hastings Police Station under Case No. 49/25 dated May 21, 2025, under Sections 25(1) and 29 of the Arms Act, and at Topsia Police Station under Case No. 74 dated May 21, 2025, under Sections 25(1)(a) and 29 of the Arms Act. The operations were carried out based on credible source information and were part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal arms dealings.
The police continue investigations into the matter, including efforts to identify and apprehend any accomplices or suppliers involved in the trafficking of illegal firearms in Kolkata. No further details have been disclosed at this time.
